HD-8 Race Opens Up...A Little

  • by: Colorado Pols

The race to succeed term-limited Rep. Rosemary Marshall got a little less crowded recently. Leslie Herod, a staffer for Gov. Bill Ritter, decided not to run in HD-8 despite being expected to receive significant support from both the African-American and Gay and Lesbian Communities.

Herod’s departure still leaves a busy field that includes Beth McCann, Cindy Lowery and Matt Bergles.

  1. I wonder why.

I am curious about this race after Carla Madison’s city council win to see if it reflects a fundamental change in demographics.  HD8 is even whiter than CCD8 because it includes congress park.

Identity politics remain important though I think their influence is decreasing.

      1. My dollar in this race (and, frankly, all other races) is gonna be on whoever raises the most money.  I’m too lazy to do the research right now, but it’s something like 90% of races in this country are won by the candidate with the most money.  So I guess will see in a little while who is actually the favorite.
